“The
Nibelungenlied”, is one of the classical literature stories. This depicts how heroes remain
an individual although they rise above the average human stature. This story tells that a hero becomes an epic hero when he
represents something greater than himself – a nation, a race a fate.
The salient points of this story, even though that the story is brief, is that it really shows how power and superiority
drives people to do unusual things. It delves deeper the real nature of being a hero. However the other side of the story
shows that being famous and having splendid achievements would not mean owning everything. God gave limitations to everyone.
It also emphasizes that having great powers and abilities might be the reason of being threatened. Every person was great
power has their own weaknesses. In the story, it demonstrates that trusting the people around you might pull you down.
In reality, the scenarios mentioned above happen but in different contexts. Nowadays, people who have closer relationships
to each other are the people who are now going against each other. They don’t care about the values and the memories
they shared together. In other words, peace and development does not exist anymore in their vocabulary. This manifests that
self-satisfaction provokes some people to do inhumane acts, like killing.
We chose this story to be the topic of our lesson plan to make the students more interactive and interested because
we believe that even though we are in a modern world, many people still deem in epics or fantasies. In addition, the insights
from the story have a big impact to the readers.
